A lonely young man buys a porno movie, but when he gets home he discovers the girl in the store has slipped a more meaningful film into the box.
Jonah, a self-conscious but likeable young guy, selects a porno dvd from a closing-down sale in a video store. Jonah avoids eye contact with the young lady behind the counter, Celeste, but they clearly like each other. Jonah arrives home and installs himself in front of the TV, ready for some autoerotic activity. To his astonishment, however, when he puts on the movie, it’s a children’s bedtime story TV programme, in which an actor reads the parable of a villager who catches a wild horse, which alternately brings good and bad luck. The parable, which addresses life’s mystery and unpredictability, is intercut with Jonah’s initially annoyed and subsequently increasingly intrigued responses. When the parable is finished reading, Jonah tidies himself up and goes back to the video store, where he asks Celeste to be his companion. Length: 5 pages
