Prayer Offerings Synopsis When the wife and daughter of a popular televangelist are found murdered on a Florida Panhandle beach, one-armed interim sheriff, BODE KELLER, joins his top detective, ANGIE SCHAEFER, in the criminal investigation. The unusual circumstances of the deaths and the subsequent discovery of the Crossways Church pastor, SHANE OLSEN, found bound and gagged on his yacht, surface suspicions of a possible conspiracy involving Olsen. Despite the senselessness of the murders, Keller sees the tragedy as an opportunity to prove he is qualified to be sheriff. He hopes it will help him win the upcoming election against his hated opponent, Commander RAY GARDNER. If elected, Keller believes he will earn the respect of his deputies and be able to provide for his sixteen-year-old daughter, CARRIE, despite his handicap. Just as the investigation advances, Keller has to deal with another high-profile crime when LANCE VANDERPOOL, son of ex-NFL quarterback, JAKE VANDERPOOL, is accused of accidentally killing a Colombian woman and her child while street racing his motorcycle. Detective JUAN BAILEY investigates the accident, and armed with eyewitness statements, treats the case as vehicular manslaughter. Keller agrees. Keller gets a break in the Olsen case when a beautiful Crossways Church accountant, JULIE CAMERON, asks to be a confidential informer. She supplies Keller with information implicating Olsen. She believes Olsen hired someone to kill his family. Though Keller has strong feelings for Angie, he is infatuated with the shy and sensual Julie. They immediately begin a sexual relationship, to the dismay of Angie, who is in love with him. Stakes increase when the killer blows up Julie’s car in an attempt to prevent her from talking. Jake Vanderpool hires a local thug, ADONIS WASHINGTON to threaten a witness in his son’s criminal investigation. When she recants her story, another eyewitness, WALTER SMITTY SMITH, comes forward, but changes his mind later when he and his girlfriend are nearly killed by Washington. When Carrie describes a scar on her abductor, Julie realizes the killer is BILLY SEDDON, a man who delivered packages to Olsen. Keller and Angie work with the S.W.A.T. team in a forced entry of Seddon’s hotel room. Seddon escapes but is murdered under a bridge abutment by a mysterious killer. While at Julie’s house, Keller receives a call from Angie. She warns him Julie masterminded the entire frame up of Olsen and used Seddon as her killer. Before Keller can react, Julie shoots him. As she is about to deliver the final bullet, Angie arrives and fatally shoots Julie. Keller wins the election while in the ICU at the hospital. All charges are dropped against Olsen, but a blogger reveals his mistresses names, significantly reducing contributions to his Crossways Ministry. Walter Smith once again agrees to testify in the Lance Vanderpool vehicular manslaughter case. Lance and Jake Vanderpool plead guilty to the charges and are sentenced to state prison.
