Michael’s birthday marks the news that Old Earth has been found. His decision to try and join the exploration team changes his life, and his perspective on the universe, forever.

Synopsis
Michael will remember his 25th birthday for the rest of his life. It was the day that the probes finally found Old Earth, almost a millennium after disaster struck and wiped out 95% of the population, and the remainder were abandoned due to the strange changes in their evolutionary development. It was also the day that he made the decision to apply to join the exploration team to investigate whether there was any life left there, and if so, what sort of creatures now inhabited the once overcrowded planet. His personal log entries recall his experiences of the trip and his arrival and take you to the shocking discoveries his team made when they stepped out “planet-side” on Old Earth.

- My suggestion is to build the synopsis so that it has irony. In this case the main character is unhappy with his current situation, so he volunteers for an expedition to find a better planet. Only that when he arrives he finds it's not much better than the one he's just left. In fact, it's worse. It's Planet Earth, the suckpot of the universe.He's heard stories in the past how awful it was and now he's there to colonize it. Wars, religious and racial intolerance, more wars, ugly people. Irony.
