School holidays and the Olympics... Playing havoc with my routines...
I have been teaching 5-7yr olds for many years and have always loved encouraging them to write and enjoy stories and language but a couple of years ago a conversation with a friend inspired the idea of a story. I went away and wrote it down and was surprised at how much I enjoyed doing it. Working full time and with two young children of my own I don't get much time or peace to write but after successfully writing three musicals for children I am becoming more determined to get somewhere with other genres. I love stories with emotional depth and a richness of language and, some would say conversely, I am also inspired by science fiction.

    • Hello Lisa, I want to thank you so much for your comnprehensive review of 'Dear Departed' - so generous of you! It certainly means a lot as I have nobody to criticise my work. Yes, I do see what you mean, and I agree with you. I'll get to some editing in the near future. Strange how hard it is to be objective about one's own work. As I was reading 'Margery Bigge', I kept thinking of an older children's picture book I love. (Actually, it reads more like an adult piece of work) The rhythm and style reminded me so much of it, although if you read it, you may not agree. It's called 'I am the Mummy Hebnefert' by Eve Bunting, an American writer. Please see if you can get hold of it. Cheers, Vicki

    • Hi Oryx, Just read and reviewed 'Fear.' I enjoyed it so much. Could you read my story 'The Dear Departed'? A couple of comments make me think I've been obsure at some point in the telling. I'd like some criticism. Thanks, Victoria

    • Hi, I don't know if you remember me, but you read my project a while back and helped me with editing. I'd just like to say, sorry for not replying sooner. The internet daunts me. Plus, I'm socially lazy. Those two things combined lead to me deserting all internet communication for weeks on end, just because I can. I'm rambling a bit now, but anyway, sorry about that. I had another look over the story and checked the areas you suggested, and feel it's much stronger now. Thanks a lot for the help, it really is appreciated. I'll go and have a look at one of your projects in return.

    • Hi, hope all’s well. Just to let you know my novel, ‘The Broken Boots Guide to Astlavonia’ has just been published. It’s a black comedy about a debt-ridden divorcee who is sent to Astlavonia, a former soviet state, to write its first ever guidebook but discovers all disputes are settled with a knife. If you’d like to read the first chapter and find out more, please visit www.nathanbraund.com. Please help an unknown writer by telling your friends. Thanks very much. Nathan astlavonia@yahoo.com
