Dreaming about reading anything, feeding the baby
I am an editor with 10 years experience in both fiction and non-fiction. At HarperCollins I read incoming submissions from all the major literary agencies on a daily basis, as well as unsolicited submissions from new authors. I am familiar with the classic mistakes of first-time submissions, and I know exactly what publishers are looking for; I can help you turn the crucial first pages of your work into a readable and commercial proposition. I have a Ph.D in English, and have taught undergraduate courses in both Gothic Fiction and the post-colonial novel at Queen Mary, UL. My academic background enables me to unpack themes and ideas buried in the text and use them to inform my feedback. I continue to be enthralled by the power of the written word to change lives, illuminate cultures, to open us up to difference, and of course, simply to give pleasure. I am especially interested in women's fiction, narratives of place and identity, commercial historical, and literary fiction and any writing about food, but will read and comment on mostly anything.

    • Hey Pria, just wanted to tell you how much I liked your article on the first five pages. I went and looked at the first five pages of my novel styraight away and even though they have been worked and reworked and I'm far more concerned about how the second half of my novel reads I found alot of changes I wanted to make. Your comments on dialogue have me thinking I've got abot a year's worth of work on that alone. Anyway, thanks for having that up there. Tonimarie

    • Hi Pria, Thank you very much for the feedback. Everything you have said I totally agree with. This was my first proper short story I have ever written so I knew I needed a lot of guidance, and hence requested the feedback. In my spare time I tend to write long stories so I have probably written the short story more like a chapter found in a novel rather than a short story myself, knowing me. Initially the story was set in the fifties and I have edited it so many times I think I have lost the core of it. Anyways thanks very much Louise

    • Hi Pria, thanks for finishing my report but I can't seem to access it anywhere! A bit frustrating. When I click on the tab to get my Completed Feedback it just gives me general feedback from everyone about everything. Is it possible for you to email it to me - tonyflew@gmail.com - Regards, Tony

    • Hi Pria, I hope things are going well with your new arrival. I almost feel guilty asking because I know you must be so busy, but have you had a chance to read my story yet? Regards, Tony
